The Empire Theatre was situated in Charles Street. It was destroyed by fire 7th January 1942.

The Six Harmonists included the married couple Albert Potter and Gladys Hay. Gladys was the daughter of the famous Will Hay. Among items in their act was the recreation of the sounds of aerial bombardment! See links below to YouTube.
